Growing Local Food Security Conference
I was able to attend the conference on Saturday. It was a good opportunity to tune into all the efforts that are being made across the province to promote healthy, ethical, and sustainable local food practices and economies. I was inspired by the sharing of practical advice and experience by the folks from Food Ethos Farm and Spring Creek Farm. I attended the Finding Your Farm Community workshop hoping to network with other like-minded folks in the Southeast Manitoba area. I was unsuccessful in that I was the only one at the workshop from this area. There also seemed to be the lack of a network here, whereas in other areas of the province such as Clearwater, Boissevain, Cypress River and the Interlake, people are connecting and organizing themselves into local sustainable food systems. I believe that there are many of us living here in the Southeast who are making efforts in our own small isolated way. How can we connect with one another in the spirit of mutual support and encouragement?
